About RUKKA RAINWEAR

Rukka were established in the Finnish city of Kokkola by Roger Störling in 1950 (Rukka was Roger's nickname). The flags in the modern-day Rukka logo stand for the letters R,U,K,K,A in the international flag signal alphabet – an homage to the sport of sailing which once constituted the core of Rukka’s business.

Since 1990, Rukka has been an independent division of the L-Fashion Group Oy, one of Europe’s largest sports wear manufacturers based in Lahti, Finland. In addition to Rukka, the L-Fashion Group is home to brands like Luhta, Skila, Story, Torstai, Beavers, Ril’s and Big-L. These brands are the first choice of outdoor fans as well as golf and snowmobile enthusiasts.

Rukka rainwear has a long heritage and a very well established product range.

The base material from which Rukka rainwear is manufactured, Elastoplast, is exclusive to Rukka. The material is lightweight, soft, totally waterproof and can be machine washed. The material has attained the ökotex 100 standard and is free from any harmful substances.

About Sunproof

(Rukkarainwear.com is a trading name of Sunproof Limited)

Sunproof was established in 2002 by Jouko Nykanen, who grew up in Sydney in the 1970's and went to the beach with no sun protection. Jouko and his childhood friends were the very last generation of clueless beach grommets who fried their hides before the Australians got smart about skin damage and invented the Slip Slop Slap mantra in the 1980's.

Living in Britain since 1989, Jouko discovered the then little used surfing beaches of the Gower Peninsula and spent many summer weekends there. He noticed that the locals were punishing their hides under the burning sun and realised that the British were a decade behind in sun awareness compared to the Aussies.

He founded Sunproof in 2002 and started importing Australian sun protection products to the UK. These products are now available in over 500 retail outlets, web stores and mail order catalogues throughout the country including Mothercare and John Lewis.

Sunproof have added popular winter ranges to their portfolio in recent years. The Cozyosko range of winter cosytoes won two gold awards in the nursery trade sector in 2010 and the range is becoming known as functional, practical and original.

Sunproof were signed by Crocs Europe as their UK kids agents in April 2006. Sunproof acted as the official Crocs kids agents in the UK for over 4 years and continue to be involved with this popular footwear brand on a retail level.

Rukka rainwear hails from Finland and has been in production for over 60 years. Sunproof relaunched this great Scandinavian brand in 2010. Both Crocs and Rukka rainwear can be purchased online or from a selection of our festival circuit appearances - see the "see us at festivals" section of this website.
